A short time ago, we discussed the issue of salmonella in the news and the effects it can have not only on us but on our furry companions as well.
Included in that discussion was a brief reference to the importance of dietary supplements. Well, let it be known, we have lived enough of life as well as seen and heard a great deal in the living experience that it would be very difficult to shock us.

Well, we are not shocked, but very surprised at the amount of email we received with questions around supplements for pets, and whether or not a particular supplement was good or better than another.
The first inquiry came from “Barbara” and approximately 77 more followed. We say approximately because they are still dribbling in. That, we must admit, is quite a surprise.
We have tried to answer all individually but please accept our apologies that the nerve this issue has touched has made doing so a bit cumbersome, so allow us to share a bit of information for one and all to read. So… if this is a repeat in some ways please bear with us.

I read the testimonials from others about how their older
dogs were young and vibrant again, but never in a million years
thought that it would really have that much of an effect on my
dog. Dozer is a 102 pound 3 year old American Bulldog. He is
pretty active for a big guy, but as it goes for Bulldogs, he
isn’t much of a runner and is about 10 pounds over weight. I
walk him every night along with my 1 year old Stella, who is a

My use of bovine colostrum is based on good science, experience and common sense as I was introduced to veterinary medicine while working on a dairy farm during high school and later as a milk test supervisor for the University of Georgia Dairy Department. I have been a veterinarian for 52 years – the last 44 years in small animal practice – and have been involved in numerous clinical trials. I have seen old, favorite treatment modalities replaced with new and better protocols. The use of bovine Colostrum in my practice has favorably impacted a greater diversity of diseases than any other product except the ‘silver bullet’, cortisone.
Jake, a 125 pound Rottweiler, was presented with a sarcoma half the size of a tennis ball just lateral to the fetlock. Excision necessitated transpositioning the skin to cover the defect.
