Citronella Bark Collar – Best Solution to Stop Dog Barking

It is unrealistic and unfair to discourage your dog from barking if it’s trying to alert you to something; this can have dangerous consequences. Along with training, a Citronella Bark Collar is the most effective and humane solution to stop diagnosed problem barking.

Shock collars are inappropriate and attempt to reduce barking with pain, are less effective and may increase anxiety and aggression, potentially making behavior problems worse.

Ultra-sonic collars are not as severe as the pain of electrical shock; however, behavior experts report that they have 25% the success rate as with the Citronella Bark Collar.

The Citronella Bark Collar spray works with four of your dog’s five senses; he hears it, sees it, feels it and smells it. Citronella is a unique scent, nonoffensive to humans, which most dogs don’t normally encounter so unusual enough to distract the dog from whatever he’s barking at.

Trainers have used it with great success.

“I’ve used it with great success with several of my clients’ dogs. Companion dog owners who would never accept any other type of anti-bark collar have no qualms about using yours.” -Terry D. Morrow, Trainer

“It can be used to either interrupt behaviors or to act as a deterrent to discourage behaviors, all without causing the dog pain.” -Suzanne Hetts, Ph.D. Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, Animal Behavior Associates, Inc., Littleton, CO

Just looking at these… Citronella is poison, running a mosquito torch indoors WILL kill you (Paramedic btw)

Do we have any studies or anything that shows these don’t lower dog life expectancy?

Or is it that it learns fast enough to not need it long-term?

Dear Rilo, thank you for the question because if you have such a concern others may as well.

A citronella dog collar is a terrific way to teach a dog to control a barking problem. It is not the same as burning a bug torch in your house as you stated as an analogy any more than using a charcoal grill in your house instead of your oven.

We would not recommend burning a citronella candle inside your home either but citronella candles are safe to burn around people and animals, as long as they are not ingested. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals lists citronella candles as poisonous to dogs because citronella candles can cause diarrhea and stomach cramping when ingested by animals who are attracted to their smell.

Again, Rilo, a citronella Bark Collar is not a burning torch or candle. When it comes to the “bark collar”, it is an effective way to train humanely and gently with natural, non-toxic, harmless citronella spray.

Citronella is non-toxic to dogs, humans or other pets. It is NOT a pain based dog correction devise and is completely CFC-free, so it is not in any way harmful to your dog, to you or your family under most normal circumstances.

The ASPCA states “While citronella oil does have the potential to be toxic in large amounts, the amount many collars use in their spray is relatively small. Most contain about 10 percent citronella. This level might potentially be an issue for animals who have a history of respiratory problems, but otherwise we would not expect to see any problems”.

We hope that answers your concern.
